Terminating employees may happen because of a lack of work for the employee or because of something they did or failed to do. You can terminate employment provided yy you give the proper notice required by Alberta’s Employment Standards Code yy the termination does not violate the employee’s human rights, such as ending their employment due to discrimination (for example, because the employee is homosexual) Issuing and receiving termination notices The Employment Standards Code specifies the notice period employers and employees must give when someone is asked to leave or decides to leave a job.
